Diagnostic Tests
Parksville Animal Hospital is equipped with a full lab, able to perform comprehensive tests. Our state-of-the-art laboratory equipment can provide a complete blood count and chemistry profile in just minutes, with only a small amount of blood required from your pet. With these, our veterinarian is able to diagnose problems such as anemia, infection, liver or kidney disease, diabetes, thyroid disorder, presence of internal parasites, electrolyte imbalance, and dehydration.
Blood Work
We also have the ability to stain and evaluate specific blood cells at a microscopic level. As well as diagnosing specific diseases, this lab equipment is vital to ensuring the continued health of your pet with pre-anesthetic and annual geriatric testing. Any recommended blood test that we are not able to perform in-house will be sent to the IDEXX Lab in Vancouver, with results being received as early as the following day, including progesterone testing for breeders.
Urinalysis
Parksville Animal Hospital is equipped to perform a complete urinalysis, including a chemstrip test, specific gravity, and microscopic evaluation of the sediment. We can also perform fecal ova and parasite identification testing through floatation and a direct smear.
Anesthesia Monitoring
Our anesthesia monitoring device allows us to obtain heart rate, EKG, pulse oxymetry, respiratory rate and blood pressure readings.
